WASSEA Foreword Young Originals 2017

2017 marks the eighth year that the Western Australian Secondary School Executives Association (WASSEA) has been a proud sponsor of the Young Originals.  Presented in partnership with Edith Cowan University, School of Arts and Humanities, and the Sangora Education Foundation, the exhibition celebrates the innovative creative visual arts programs delivered in Western Australian public schools and the talents of our young artists. This year over 200 entries were received from a range of schools and across all year groups. This is a record number of entries since the exhibition began and a testament to our inspirational and enthusiastic visual art teachers. As always, our judges were impressed by the consistent high standard of submissions and were hard pressed to select the works for exhibition.

Our partnership with the Edith Cowan School of Arts and Humanities has once again given students the opportunity to exhibit in a public gallery space and gain the recognition and experience of being included in a professional exhibition.

From early days at Central TAFE to this year’s exhibition in Gallery 25, it has been an exciting journey with ever increasing popularity across a wide reaching audience including, teachers, students, artists and the general public. Gallery 25 is an excellent venue for the event and it gives Young Originals the prestige it deserves and makes it accessible to a wide audience. Young Originals is also supported by the Department of Education, Statewide Services and this year we are very pleased to welcome our new funding partner, Sangora Education Foundation.

On behalf of WASSEA and our partners, I thank all students and teachers who submitted artwork this year and applaud those whose work was selected for exhibition. It is clear from the quantity and quality of artwork submitted that you have continued the tradition of excellence that is the trademark of the Young Originals exhibition. From all WASSEA members, congratulations to the artists who have been chosen to exhibit in Young Originals 2017. We join with your families, teachers and principals to celebrate this special achievement!
