Plastic Plague

Artist statement: The Plastic Plague explores issues of plastic production and global consumerism, expressing my frustration with society’s insensitivity towards environmental issues – how they are disregarded and left for future generations to deal with. Influenced by contemporary artists Jane Perkins and Kate MacDowell, my artwork incorporates recycled plastic materials to visually represent the impact of careless resource disposal. Sourced from everyday waste disposal, charity shops and old toy boxes, the materials combine with the work’s reference to the bubonic plague of the 14th century to highlight the negative effect of our ‘throwaway society’.
