Artist statement: Lost Perth (2019) is an oil painting of an urban landscape that depicts the recently established State Theatre of WA and the neighbouring S. Chester building. The positioning of the two buildings creates a fusion of contemporary architectural design and heritage sites. A light, vivid colour palette has been employed for the S. Chester building to convey a positive mood and glorify it as an important heritage site in Perth. In contrast, the State Theatre of WA is depicted in a more negative manner through the use of dismal, desaturated hues. The realistic style has been influenced by the meticulously-crafted paintings of Australian precisionist, Jeffrey Smart.
