Artist statement: Inspired by West Australian Indigenous artist Julie Dowling, this self portrait is an exploration of my identity. Like Dowling, I have placed the landscape within my body to show the importance of place in the development of who I am. Originally from Iran yet now living in Australia, I feel connected to both places. I exist in one space but have a deep connection to Iran that I hold within.
