Medium: Clay sculpture

Artist statement: I used a coiling technique to create my vessel. This involved creating a base and scoring around the outside of it. I then rolled out clay, scored and attached it to this base using slip. I repeated this technique over and over to raise the form. Inspired by the work of Courtney Mattison, I created patterns and attachments such as barnacles and clusters of tubular coral by wrapping clay around the base of a tool. These hollow organic tubes became my main focal points as I tried to build on Mattison’s message about coral bleaching and humanity’s relationship with the ocean.
