Artist statement: My artwork explores depression through a narrative from start, middle to end. I have used a graphic book format that follows each surreal moment of pain I have experienced. The piece starts off quite dark but there is a sense of hope as the tones lighten towards the end. The portal is symbolic of the unknown journey – where will I go? Will the beast get me in the end? The last page depicts a significant happy place: a sunset over the small Kimberly town from my childhood, a place of balance.
